I'm really enjoying my approach to the season this year. I eat what I want, get my hw done, go to classes, go to work, and if I have any extra time I might even go for a ride. All of the recovery time allows me to go all out on the weekends so that's nice.
It was our home race this weekend. XC was 25 miles of super greasy mud with 4 major climbs every lap and I had the worst chain suck of my life so I got to run a lot of hills. Pretty frustrated about it all, but I ended up catching back up to sprint for 3rd at the end. 2 minutes down at the end, but probably spent at least 5 minutes off of my bike trying to get it to start shifting again so what could have been...
Short track was nice and brutal like usual. I enjoy our course because it has a pretty long climb and this weekend it was super muddy so it was raw in saddle power. Slowly worked my way up the whole race to catch up to first with one lap to go only to blow up on the last hill.. Oh well, it was a fun battle. Looking forward to the next race for sure!
I'm really starting to feel better every week. Both mentally and physically. All of the base I have built up the last year is paying off and the fun of mtn bike racing is making me excited to race again. I'm really enjoying it again, I'm glad my passion is starting to come back around.
Speaking of passion, I've decided to enter the cyclocross season a bit early and so I will be racing King's Cross this weekend in Cincinnati. Hopefully my mounts won't be too horrible.. At least I got a lot of practice running during our home XC race (it was miserable). Dropping 10 lbs from the mtb to the cross bike will be nice too... oh boy...
